What We Do

LICENSING

Any individual that issues an evaluation, opinion, conclusion, or analysis relating to the value of real property in West Virginia must hold the proper professional credential issued by the WVREALCB.  A credential is issued only after minimum prerequisites for licensure are met.  Additionally, any Appraisal Management Company performing appraisal management services in the state of West Virginia must be registered and vetted by the WEVREALCB.  The WVREALCB is responsible for paying fees to the Appraisal Subcommittee on behalf of the licensees, and reporting any changes that need to be made to the national registries.

EDUCATION

The WVREALCB must determine if an applicant has obtained the competency necessary to enter and practice in the profession before issuing them a license. This is accomplished through monitoring the applicant's education and experience hours, reviewing samples of their work product, and ensuring they have successfully completed a nationally approved examination.  To assist licensees, the WVREALCB maintains courses, and providers of those courses, for both qualifying and continuing education requirements.

REGULATION

The WVREALCB's duty is to enforce the laws, rules, regulations, and standards established for real property appraisers and Appraisal Management Companies.  Any allegation of non-compliance is thoroughly investigated and resolved as the WVREALCB deems appropriate.  Resolutions could include sanctions against licensees in the form of fines, additional education requirements, probationary terms, license suspension, or license revocation.
